Vicki Avila, LCSW
As a psychotherapist and the Clinical Director of Sojourners Family Resource Center, I am committed to helping people overcome their emotional pain and relationship conflicts, and to have happier, healthier, more fulfilling lives.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years' experience working with people to resolve a wide range of personal and family problems. I specialize in counseling and psychotherapy with individuals who are struggling with stress, anxiety or depression, and who find that these issues are negatively affecting their relationships, their work, their health, and their peace of mind.
In particular, I have extensive experience in working with:
ADD/ADHD in Adults
Individuals who are in a process of recovery from alcohol and other
drug abuse and dependency
eating disorders, sexual addictions, compulsive gambling, workaholism,
and other compulsive or addictive behaviors
family members affected by someone with ADD/ADHD or addiction
Those with whom I work experience my unconditional acceptance of who
and where they are now, as a foundation for helping them more toward
greater health and well-being as they define it. They also appreciate
my willingness to sensitively challenge them when needed for their
healing and growth.
I obtained post-graduate certification in Psychoanalysis and Comprehensive Psychotherapy from the National Institute for the Psychotherapies in New York City. I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Hunter College in New York City and a Bachelor of Science in Economics (BSEcon) in Organizational Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. As a social worker, I have worked in employee assistance programs (EAPs), mental health centers, and as a senior social worker in Chemical Dependency Services at The Actors' Fund, a non-profit social service agency for people in the entertainment industry. I have led workshops and groups on stress management and stress reduction, as well as financial wellness. Prior to my training in social work, I spent four years working in information systems consulting and three years in human resources and operations management in a corporate setting.
